Household Goods

John’s mom is up here in Alaska visiting us for a little over a week. Yes, if you’ve done your calculations, she is my mother-in-law :p But we get along great :D Anyway, so John is on leave and I took the time off from work too so we are all free to do whatever we want. Sort of. Still tight with the money situation. But oh well. Today we are having a BBQ. It’s not the nicest weather but at least it’s not raining (yet). We have a bunch of people coming over, three of them being our friends who are moving in a couple of weeks to Colorado :( But today will be fun!

Yesterday John got a call saying that his (our) household goods from Wisconsin were in town and he needed to call to set up a delivery time. We are SUPER excited because we’ve been waiting forever for that stuff! It’s all our stuff that was left back in Wisconsin that we couldn’t fit in suitcases or whatever when we came up here in the first place. Some of it is furniture but a lot of it is junk lol I’m just really excited because in my stuff I have a disk with a bunch of OLD OLD OLD website stuff from 2 years ago when I was still in college working on my website stand-in-the-rain.net. I can’t remember exactly what’s on it but I’m sure I’ve got lots more graphics (like PSDs and layouts) that I can update and add to the resource part of this site :D I’m really excited for that. And for being able to set up our house COMPLETELY :cheerful:

John and I are still trying to save some money so we are able to fly home for Christmas this year! If you can spare just a few dollars, please click on the donate button to the right… Every penny will help and I’m planning on offering free advertising or something like that for anyone who donates. More info on that later! :D Hope you all have a great Labor Day weekend!

New Theme!

Yes that’s right, I spent a lot of my day today creating a new theme for the site. :D I haven’t gotten everything just the way I want it, but it’s good enough for now. ;) I was going for something WAY simple and here ya go! I added a link in the navigation to my collective that I just got up and running last week. I have joined a few listings as well as starting some of my own. Make sure you visit and join if you’d like! :cheerful: I would love to start getting some members!

Wow, it’s feels like it’s been forever since I blogged. Since I even came to the site to look around. Since I’ve visited anyone’s website. I feel so bad about that! I have no excuse either! I haven’t been too busy working or anything… just lazy I guess. A week from tomorrow, John’s mom is coming up here to Alaska to visit (from Wisconsin) for about a week and it’s been a little stressful. We need to get new tires on the car so we can to the traveling we’d like to while she’s here and it’s almost $700 for new tires! :worried: We have to go through the dealer up here which is why it’s so expensive :( And we’ve been tight with money as it is so John’s trying to get a loan from the Army or at least some advance pay so we can actually enjoy the time while his mom is up here! We’re telling family that if they want us to come home for Christmas this winter, they need to send us some money towards our plane tickets! It’s gonna cost just shy of $2000 for the both of us! And that’s not even including present money!

I hope all is well with everyone out there. Sorry I have been so MIA lately I hope that will change soon!

Prenatal Visits

So I know it’s been awhile since I’ve been here. Sorry about that! I can’t really say I’ve been that busy but I have been working and lounging around quite a bit! lol I plan on returning comments this week as I don’t work too much and I wanted to let you all know that I’m still here! :D

I haven’t had any more problems giving blood as I told you about in the last blog :) This Friday I will be having my first official prenatal appointment and we will hopefully be able to hear the baby’s heartbeat :D I’m really excited!!! Everyone at work is guessing that it’s going to be a boy and that’s what I’m thinking too. I just got done with work and this lady had a 1 month old baby girl and she was so cute! She’s so adorable and I was just staring at her and thinking “hey, that’s gonna be me soon!” ;) Once we get our first ultrasound I will definitely put pics up here on the site :D

The next few days I will be working on adding a fanlisting I was just approved for, for places–Alaska! You all better join when I get it up and running! :D Alaska is so beautiful in so many ways and I hope you will all enjoy the pictures I will be adding :D

March 8, 2011

So, if you hadn’t guessed it, March 8, 2011 is the official due date for our baby! :D I was really close in guessing, I had guessed the 5th. My friend Mel had guessed the 13th. Anyway, I wanted to let everyone know that we finally found out the due date! :cheerful: Also, we went to the stupid first “appointment” which was really a class of a bunch of girls who are around 2 months preggo (like me) and we watched a video saying what we should and shouldn’t do while pregnant, what symptoms you might have and how to deal with it, etc etc. Then we had some one-on-one time with our nurse but it wasn’t that great. Still boring. They did say that starting Monday (today) we could go in and get our initial blood work done in the lab, which we need to do before our next appointment.

So, that’s what I did today. Went in to get stuck by a needle to take my blood. I figured this would be quick as I have given blood multiple times in my life and they always say I’m a quick bleeder. :p So, I go in and sit down and the nurse asks me if I have a preference of which arm. I say yes, my left. I’ve given blood many times and they can never find a vein in my right, so, left please. She goes in. Oh, we got the vein, but no blood. Hm… Let’s move it around a bit. (ow) Oh, there’s some blood! But, it’s really slow… Let’s take it out! So, they take it out and decide to put a hot pack on my arm to try and up my blood pressure. Let’s try again, same arm but different spot. Same thing. Not bleeding. Hm… Different nurse. Let’s try the right arm. GREAT I’m going to have both arms sore for the rest of the day. Little difficult finding the vein but hey, we found it and it’s filling up this test tube very well. Next tube (of like 5!) Oh, now it’s stopped. Let’s go back to the left arm… only down farther so actually ON my arm instead of in the elbow bend. Here we go…. Filling up good now. Oh wait, last tube, Courtney’s feeling nauseous. Quick! Take out the needle! Here, lay down! Here’s some water! Now you’re fine.

I’ve NEVER been close to passing out while dealing with needles until today. I think it was just too much and I hadn’t eaten all morning and I got warm. But hey, after 4 holes in my arms I got to go home.

New Addition to the House!

Sorry I’ve been kinda blah about updating lately. A lot has been going on. My two friends from home, Melissa (Wisconsin) and Kelsea (Iowa) were up here visiting for about 3 weeks. It was a crazy time but also very very fun! :D We had some crazy times on our trip over the 4th of July weekend–we drove 2 1/2 hours to Denali National Park to see Mount McKinley. Alas, we were part of the 70% that didn’t see it because of the weather being too cloudy and rainy. :( Then we continued our journey another 4 hours south to Anchorage where we stayed on the army base there and camped for a night. We took a trip to the Alaska Zoo (check out last blog!) and then took the 6 1/2 hour trip back home to Fairbanks/Ft. Wainwright.

The girls were here for another week after that and during that time, guess what? Found out I am pregnant! :cheerful: I took two home pregnancy tests in the same day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon and they both said “Pregnant”. (I get the digital ones that actually say the words ;) ) Then the next day John and I went to the hospital to take an “official” test and pee in a cup for the wonderful nurses there. After calling them and hounding them for my results that day, they told me it was a “weak positive” so I had to come back in 48 hours to do another one. So I went back that Friday and did another test. STILL weak. Went back in this last Monday and finally it came back a normal positive. So they signed me up for my first appointment, but it’s a week from tomorrow and it’s a group thing. How stupid does that sound? We have to go through a sort-of class thing where they tell us what we should and shouldn’t do while pregnant, what medicines we can take, etc and then we get some one-on-one time with our nurse. I told John he was coming with me. lol

I really really want to update soon, with a new layout and new content… I just don’t know what to do. Any ideas that can spark some inspiration for me? That would be awesome! :D
